Caitlin’s Journey

During 2018, SkillsPlus Frankston were fortunate enough to have many wonderful students, one of whom is Caitlin from our Senior VCAL class. Caitlin always showed respect, kindness and appreciation to other students and staff throughout her journey with us. She also displayed a very strong passion for animals and the environment.

“Throughout the year her class did a number of beach clean ups and tree planting events in collaboration with Parks Victoria. Caitlin was able to form an inroad with Morgan at Parks Victoria and commenced volunteering with her.

Morgan made sure that Caitlin experienced many different National Parks, flora/fauna, educational talks, tree planting and activities with local schools. During the 5 month adventure Morgan spoke very highly of the dedication Caitlin showed in all aspects of her volunteer work.

Caitlin showed determination to continue in this field of work by applying to be a Summer Ranger and also applying for an Apprenticeship in Parks and Gardens with the City of Kingston.

In January this year Caitlin visited us and we helped her to prepare for an interview with the City of Kingston. She was so keen to secure this position regardless of this being her very first job interview ever!

Her references were strong: Morgan, Parks Victoria and Leigh, Youth Coordinator – Frankston. Late January the teachers in the Youth Program at Frankston were so pleased to hear that Caitlin would be commencing employment with the City of Kingston the following week.

Caitlin has since visited us in her City of Kingston uniform and is loving her job and plans to work there for a very long time. Such a positive outcome and all the more reason why teachers in the Youth Department love their jobs.”
